SEWA Exhibition & Sale at AIFD Campus
Army Institute in association with SEWA organised a exhibition of exquisitely embellished apparels,home furnishings and accessories by master craftswomen of Gujarat. The exhibition is a tribute to the 15000 craftswomen who have choosen various crafts to sustain for livelyhood supported by SEWA. SEWA Trade Facilitation Centre (STFC) has been empowering women through traditional embroidery skills and have been helping them in Branding and creating captive market through exclusive exhibitions all over the country.
The Faculty of AIFD & students honoured these skilled craftswomen through helping them in organise this exhibition from 23rd to 25th December at AIFD campus and the exhibition will also be at Manekshaw Parade Ground from 27th to 29th December. The exhibition was innagurated by Dr.Ninge Gowda, Coordinator Department of Apparel Technology & Management,Bangalore University.Speaking on the occassion he commended the work of SEWA for providing the spirit of entrpreneurship to the craftswomen and training them. This has empowered craftswomen numbering more than 15000 an apportunity to earn better wages and also be shareholders in the progress.He also complimented the management of Army Institute of Fashion & Design for taking such initiative to bring the exhibition for the first time to Bangalore. Dr.Ninge Gowda expressed that the students of fashion Design and Textiles Technology will have a close interaction with the craftswomen who had come for the exhibition and learn certain traditional secrets of intricate embroidery. He also complimented the faculties and student of AIFD for organising such an event.
The Director AIFD,Dr.N.V.R.Nathan welcomed the gathering at the beginning and Ms.Ruchi Tauker of SEWA briefed the gathering on the startegy og SEWA and screened a short film giving insights to all who gathered on the activities of SEWA and the travails and trauma of the tribal women before they joined SEWA.The registrar Lt.Col.Alok Mehra delivered the vote of thanks.

AIFD Activities for November
AIFD students went for Industrial visits as part of the Industry & Institute learning process. The industry visit was focused at strengthening the theoritical learning to practical exposure. The students visted several industries starting from a composite mills to a garment manufacturing unit.

AIFD & IIMM will shortly offer MBA program to existing elligible PG students under a unique MOU to further strengthen the placement prospects.The programme will have experts from industry sharing their hands on experience as well summer intership.Mr.Subbukrishna,Vice Chairman & Prof:Shajahan, Principal Consultant visted AIFD and commended the TEAM and administration for the excellent infrastructure and well organised resource centre.
AIFD tied up with Chirala Handlooms(P)Ltd(CHPL) for developing designs for their proposed forray into ready made garments. AIFD team will work on three festive collection and two season collection every year for CHPL. Mr.Banuprasad the MD of CHPL and Mr.Srinivasan,Chartered Accountant from CHPL visted AIFD to formalise the arrangement.

October acheivements
october saw hectic activity at AIFD. The institute had several VIP visitors incuding Mr.Sandeep Dave I.A.S. Managing Director of KHDC. AIFD made a presentation to the MD to join hands with KHDC for developing ready to wear Garments under the KHDC label. The MD expressed his approval in principal to work together on two areas,Design Development and Retail training for their existing retail showroom staff. He had asked for a formal proposal for his immediate consideration.

Bangalore University Team Visits AIFD
MD, AWES Maj Gen Manmohan Singh(Retd) in conversation with Dr.Ninge Gowda, Head of the Department and Co-ordinator Dept of Apparel technology & Management, Bangalore University who was part of the Local Inspection Committee(LIC) that visited AIFD. Bangalore University is considering to approve affiliation for BSc Fashion & Apparel Design programme to be shortly launched by AIFD.Also in picture are Director,AIFD Dr.N.V.R.Nathan along with Dr.Venkatramana, LIC member.
