Army Adopts Fashion, Establishes Fashion Institute

Army Welfare Education Society(AWES) established in 1986 to meet the educational needs of serving and retired officers children runs about 116 Army Public School and about 12 Professional colleges. On 12th of october 2004, AWES forayed into establishing "Army Institute of Fashion & Design"(AIFD) at Bangalore.

The institute was inagurated by the Commander K&K sub area, Brig J S Bajwa who also is the Chairman of the Institute.The Guest of honour for the occassion was Fashion Guru Mr.Prasad Bidappa. The Institute was launched with a Fashion show in the evening at the Cobbon Road officers Mess lawn, on a most innovative ramp created using steel girders typical army style. The show was conceptualised and choreographed by Prasad Bidappa himself.

The former Director of National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) Hyderabad, Dr.N.V.R.Nathan has been appointed as the founder Director of AIFD and Lt.Col Alok Mehra is the Registrar of AIFD. The Institute has initially lauched a PG Program on Fashion Technolgy with Technology Partners like Hewlett Packard, IIGM,Juki, Gerber Technology of USA etc. From the year 2005 two more PG Programme on Garment Manufacturing Technology and Apparel Merchandising & Logistics Management will be launched.
